Elements and Performance Criteria

1. Document and define the performance criteria
   • Review the performance specifications and determine the benchmark criteria
   • Validate and document the performance functions
   • Select the measurement methodology, and test it on the website
   • Validate each performance function separately
   • Record and document the metric tools, using the appropriate methodology
   • Prepare the performance benchmarks, and seek agreement on the criteria with the client
2. Validate the performance measures
   • Develop inspection and test plans, in order to validate performance measures throughout the performance cycle
   • Test the performance functions, and record the results, according to technical documentation standards
   • Compare the results of performance function testing to benchmark
   • Redesign functions that do not meet the appropriate performance benchmarks
   • Re-implement functions that have been redesigned during performance testing
   • Document the benchmarks and obtain sign-off
3. Obtain sign-off
   • Validate and document, performance standards and benchmarks
   • Submit the methodology and function testing document, and results, to the client for approval
   • Review client comments and make changes, as appropriate
   • Obtain sign-off for the website testing procedure

Performance Evidence

Evidence of the ability to:

identify the critical functions to be tested

develop the appropriate metrics for each function, and assign the benchmarked performance standards

test each performance function, and compare against the appropriate benchmarks

validate the performance of the site against technical requirements

document the results, to establish performance benchmarks for subsequent development of the site.

Note: If a specific volume or frequency is not stated, then evidence must be provided at least once.

Knowledge Evidence

To complete the unit requirements safely and effectively, the individual must:

identify and describe the legislation, regulations, codes of practice, and standards as they relate to web testing, including:

codes of ethics

privacy

copyright

intellectual property

naming

documentation

describe the client business domain, including client organisation structure and business functionality

identify current industry-accepted hardware and software products

outline the desktop applications and operating systems, as required by organisational guidelines

describe queuing systems, workload metrics, and user request classes

describe the key features, and use of, a standard generalised markup language (SGML) and its associated standards

explain standard web-testing procedures and optimisation tools

outline website design methodologies and standard website structures.
